Monica Nicolaides is a choreographer and movement director working in dance, theatre, opera and film. A featured choreographer for One Dance UK and Hiive’s ‘One-to-watch’, she received support for her work by Arts Council England, IdeasTap Innovators Fund, Candoco Dance Company, Hiive, Clarence Mews Studios and bbodance. Her commissioned work was performed at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Oxford Playhouse, The Place, The Blue Elephant Theatre, Edinburgh Zoo, Lost Theatre and featured on BBC Persia and various international film festivals. Monica's practice explores body language, human behaviour and relationships in current society. Drawing from her training as a dancer, microgestures and other art forms, she collaborates with other creatives to develop multifaceted characters and stories, narrative-based and abstract for the stage and screen. Her portfolio includes works with The Barbican, Scottish Opera, Royal Opera House, Guildhall, Royal Academny of Music, Jermyn Street Theatre, Park Theatre, Peregrina EnChantica, Third Row Dance Company, Dance Digital, Hallidonto, Homs Arthaus, University of Cumbria, and several filmed works with Isla Rose, The Forumist amongst others. Recent | Currently: Director and choreographer for 'Venus & Adonis' (Ryedale Festival Opera), Movement Director for 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' (IF Opera), Assistant Director for 'Everest' (Barbican). Open to collaborations with creatives in Mocap, Fashion, Art, Film and Technology. She looks for opportunities to create experiences live and on screen. |
